What is the Bonus-Malus System?
The Bonus-Malus System is a mechanism that adjusts the cost of insurance based on the policyholder’s claims history.
-
Bonus (Discount): If no claims are reported during the insurance period, you benefit from a reduction in your premium.
-
Malus (Increase): If claims are reported, your premium increases according to the risk scale.
How Does It Work?
-
Entry Class: First-time policyholders start at the base class (11), which corresponds to 100% of the premium.
-
Bonus (No Claims): For every claim-free year, you move down one class, with the minimum being class 1 (45%).
-
Malus (With Claims): For each claim, the class increases by 3 levels, up to a maximum of class 19 (250%).
